The La Mesa Area Writer's Guild is an association of artists, writers and poets from the Lano Estacado area. The Guild meets the first Friday of each month at the Portal Coffee House and Reading Room at 115B North Mainstreet, downtown Lamesa, Texas.
The Guild co-sponsors the Forrest Park Poetry Festival each year in April in honor of National Poetry Month. Featuring International poets, artists and musicians, such as Darren Poyzer, organizer of the Manchester Poetry Festival and Dr. Ted Rilley of Geelong Australia, Forrest Fest has become a popular event for area artisians. Complete with old fashioned Texas Bar B Q and open mic readings, featured poets highlight the event. A poetry contest with cash prizes was initiated in 2002.
